2024 Safety and Security Boot Camp Field Trip

October 7, 2024 Safety and Security Road-Trip to the State Fair of Texas. Meet with the Safety and Security teams, tour the fairgrounds, hear from guest speaker Rick Burkhead, conduct an on-site risk assessment, and debrief with the experts. Hosted by the IAFE Safety and Security Committee and the State Fair of Texas. Registration is limited, until August 1, to IAFE organizations that registered for the entire Safety and Security Boot Camp series ($100). After August 1, registration will be available for all IAFE members ($125). The IAFE has secured limited lodging, at a discounted rate of $199+, at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Dallas located at 1600 Pacific Ave., Dallas, TX and will provide transportation from the lodging to the tour sites. Attendees will be responsible for their travel.

Participants arrive in Dallas, TX

Monday, October 7

 8:15 am                            Load bus for Fairgrounds

8:30 am                            Welcome and Overview: Jeff Cotner, Director of Security, Mitchel Glieber, President – State Fair of Texas

9:45 am                             Observe the daily staff “huddle’

10:00 am – 12:00 pm     Tour facilities highlighting security procedures

12: 00 – 1:30 pm            Lunch provided by the State Fair of Texas in the Cotton Bowl Conference Room. Attendees will be able to be on the historical Cotton Bowl field. Home of the Red River Showdown!

Presenter: Rick Burkhead, President/Lead Consultant, B.E.S.T. Executive Security. Retired FBI supervisory special agent with 24 years’ service as an investigator, crisis management coordinator and Critical Incident Response Team and Counterterrorism Supervisor.  While with the FBI, Rick led regional operational planning of security structure, assignments and budget for large-scale special events, to include Super Bowl XLV, NFL Draft, NBA All-Star Weekend, NBA Finals, NHL All-Star Game, College Football National Championship Game, PGA Colonial and Byron Nelson Events. In his role with B.E.S.T., Rick has created a strategic security partnership with the College Football Playoffs, PGA Byron Nelson Golf Tournament, XFL, Trident Response Team, Environmental Intelligence (Cyber Security Group), State Fair of Texas, private sector corporations, and the NFL as the Lead North Texas Security Representative.

 1:30 – 2:30 pm               Safety and security tour continues

2:30 – 4:45 pm                Attendees on their own at fairgrounds-continue risk assessment

4:45 pm                            Return to hotel for cocktails and debrief

5:00 pm – 6:00 pm          Risk assessment debrief
