2023 Safety and Security Boot Camp Field Trip

October 16, 2023 Safety and Security Road-Trip to the South Carolina State Fair Meet with the Safety and Security teams, tour the fairgrounds. Conduct an on-site risk assessment and debrief with the experts. Tour the South Carolina Gamecocks command center, the Williams-Brice Football Stadium, and Founders Park baseball fields, hear from local law enforcement about how law enforcement views fairs, and engage in networking and debrief sessions. Hosted by the IAFE Safety and Security Committee and the South Carolina State Fair. IAFE has secured limited lodging, at a discounted rate of $119+, at the Cambria Hotel and will provide transportation from the lodging to the tour sites. Attendees will be responsible for their travel.

Monday, October 16, 2023

              8:00 am – Load busses/check-in at busses

8:30 am – Bus leaves for South Carolina State Fairgrounds

8:45 am – Greeting from South Carolina and discussion with Nancy Smith, CFE – General Manager, and Matt LaSchuma, Director of Safety (Palmetto Room in the Heath Building)

9:30 am – Depart for walking tour of South Carolina State Fair facilities-risk assessment.

11:00 am – View gate opening procedures and metal detector procedures, continue risk assessment.  

11:45 am – Lunch served with local law enforcement who will share their views of Fairs from law enforcement. (Palmetto Room, Heath Building)

1:00 pm – Busses depart for South Carolina Gamecocks Williams-Brice Stadium

1:15 pm – Tour USC Command Center and the Williams-Brice Stadium

3:15 pm – Busses depart for Founders Park (baseball fields)

3:30 pm – Tour Founders Park

5:00 pm – Busses depart for the hotel

 5:15 pm – 6:15 pm – Debrief of day’s events, social and networking (munchies and drinks)

If you would like to return to the fair, you can do so with complimentary passes provided by the South Carolina State Fair.
